You know.... I live not to far from these A..holes and quite a few businesses here us Linux/UNIX and all these greedy morons are trying to do is load up on money! It seems to me however that they really don't have much of a case as over the years the kernal and source have been updated changed and what have they had to do with it, nothing! They are typical of most people in this state all they want is money and do not want to work for it! Down with SCO!

All SCO related topics belong and more suitable in the General forum where we have many topics covering SCO and their Lawsuit.

* Note * Keep the bashing to a minimal or not at all. If your going to share your disgust with the public, do it in a professional manner. We at LQ do not want to come off being at the same level as others in the corporate and or individual world.

Is'nt it strange that SCO'S stock price keeps rising every time they create another splash in the media - its raced up in a matter of months.

Nice colateral for a company whose own products have been completely superceded by their so called derivatives

Hmm.........eyzsmellarat

Believe, that really burns me up....they are doing something dumb and downright evil and because of the ignorance of stock traders (or perhaps a difference in priorities) the bad guys profit....

Basically if they dumped their stock now, they'd have slandered tons of developpers and users of a great OS, wasted millions of dollars in lawyers' time at other companies and made out like bandits with a ton of cash scot free.

it aint right.

Speculation is the word that you're looking for.

In truth, it's probably lots of smaller speculator's, because the lack of clarity in SCO's case, no major stockholding institution are going to buy large amounts, but if lots of small parcels of their shares continue to change hands in the hope of a major "pay day", then their price can only go in one direction (for the foreseeable future).

I'd like to bet that once any ??? start getting asked closer to a visit to a courthouse, then the price will stabilise or even start to creep down, and if, as we all seem to believe, it turns out that their case is garbage, then the price would go down like a pork chop in a synagouge!

regards

John

Apparently some of them are already selling stock.

I'd feel pissed off if I'd spent large parts of my leisure time in the mid-late 1990's contributing to the Linux kernel only to see SCO sending out 1500 leters warning of the use of a kernel that I had freely and honestly contributed to - only for them to try and profit from because of a few derivative concepts used - none of which SCO created.

After living in Utah for a short period I have come to learn that the people (not all) here are only about keeping the wealthy very wealthy and the rest of us paying for it. So really SCO isn't a big suprise. I personaly think that in the end they will not win their case and go back into oblivion.

If they truly had a case wouldn't this have taken place a long time ago? Why did they wait so long?

Also as we saw that the judicial system had a hard time feeling any sympathy for Microsoft.

The only thing that is in their favor is that Neo Facist music group law suit, and the fact that congress is all about working on lame laws like spam, and music piracy.

SCO is nothing more than theives!

I hate mankind and this is one of the reason I do.
There's always some people ready to exploit others to some *%?ing money. This pursuit is illegitimate but LEGAL so SCO claim they have the right to do it... Sorry SCO, you suck and I'll not help you to pay your PDG new car.
Linux won because it was free, now you use it to try to earn money... Some SCO guys already have their place reserved next Satan.

Buy a license then burn your local SCO store.

It disgusts me beyond words - or at least words trickykid would want me saying. The fact that they have no *real* case is obvious. The fact that this is extortion of the lowest kind and would be illegal in any context but this white-collar corporate one is obvious. Still, it kind of starts to worry me. Microsoft got off light. Now Microsoft is funding SCO (like Microsoft would bow down to SCOs extortion by licensing this stuff rather than crushing them like a bug, as they've crushed dozens of other companies? No - Microsoft has a use for SCO and by "licensing" the stuff, they have a cover for "payoff" and, regardless, it has the effect of giving SCO more money for legal combat). And now we have a segment of the government manifestly bought and sold by the RIAA and "intellectual property" and "copyright" and all the rest are the big buzzwords of the moment. Basically, the opening of the 21st century is witnessing the death throes of a pre-21st century economy. But the Powers That Be have an invested (pun intended) interest in the old-style economy and artificial restrictions and cost-inflations of that which is free - information. And since the natural course of evolution is for the old economic model to cease, the only way to prop it up is through, essentially, tyranny: support of immoral and illegal methods of suppression and control via money, extortion disguised as lawsuits, and passing of new laws to make what was illegal legal. Such as spying on people's computers and frying them. Or nullifying the GPL. Or what have you. In an honest and natural society, SCO would be a joke and we could all ignore this or point and laugh or vomit - whatever our response might be. But I worry that this is not an honest and natural society and that there's a sort of mission to destroy Linux and open source and free information. If SCO is just a superficial manifestation of deeper forces, we could be in real trouble.

But hopefully nothing's going on and SCO is just a bunch of money-grubbing twits who'll get slapped down shortly.

Im curious, if SCO is going "let" us buy a license of a "binary run-time" version of linux, does that mean we cannot compile our kernel when we need to add a driver that happened to not come standard in the kernel???

Also, would'nt it also be copyright infringement for SCO to use all the hard work of the driver writters, kernel maintainence and Install writers.

Im curious how they can come in on the curtails of a great revolution and screw all the people who have created, morphed and made Linux what it is today. They may have the "copyright" to some of the Kernel Code, but they have no right on the drivers and other items written for Linux.

Angry

I just hope big guys like IBM and Novell stand behind the Linux community.

What I'm wondering is, why does SCO keep hiding the core of the problem; i.e. the portion of the kernel code where they allge the UNIX code has been stolen into?

SCO vs IBM may take along time to go to court and find out what SCO has or doesn't have up its sleave. Wouldn't it be a good idea to find somebody with some money and sue SCO themselves. Then SCO would have to show its hand and hopefully alot sooner.

"SCO now has broad legal rights against end-users," Darl McBride, president and CEO of SCO, said
Monday. "We intend to use these rights carefully and judiciously."
There is no such thing as legal rights against end users. Only if end users violate some copyright laws.
If an end user uses a product that violates a copyright law the end user is not responsible. The person
who violates the copyright law (the programmer) is ultimately responsible.

This fact SCO would like to keep hidden from Linux users in their "scare champaign!"

Even if IBM injected IP code in the Linux kernel which I'm sure it didn't the liability is with IBM and
not with Joe Blow Linux User.
