Not sure how many times I've done this over the years but what the heck, my systems have changed drastically since the last time:

Name: Taurus
Description: Main Desktop
Specs:
P4 2.0GHz Tyan Motherboard
1GB DDR PC2100 RAM
Nvidia GeForce2 64MB
120GB Total Space Seagate Hard Drives
3com NIC
Soundblaster Live
DVD
OS: Slackware-Current

Name: Fireball
Description: Remote Desktop Host.
Specs:
PIII 600MHz
256MB PC133 SDRAM
40GB Seagate Hard Drive
Onboard Intel Video
Generic CDROM
3com NIC
OS: CentOS 4.0 - yum updated

Name: Lotus
Description: Web Server - apache, sendmail, mysql, nfs
Specs:
P4 2.0GHz Tyan Motherboard
1GB PC2100R DDR-SDRAM IBM Compatible ECC
140GB Total Space IBM and Maxtor Drives
Generic CDROM
Permedia 2 compatible Video Card
3com NIC
OS: Slackware-Current

Name: Leo
Description: File/Web Server - apache, sendmail, nfs, samba
Specs:
PIII 1GHz Tyan Motherboard
1.5GB PC133 SDRAM
250GB Total Space IBM/WD Hard Drives
Nvidia GeForce2 64MB Video
3com NIC
Yamaha CRE3200E 32X CDRW
OS: Slackware-Current

Name: Orion
Description: Mail/Web Server - apache, postfix
Specs:
PIII 800MHz
512MB PC133 SDRAM
40GB Seagate Hard Drive
Intel Pro NIC
Generic DVD
Onboard Intel Video
OS: Slackware-Current

And two other machines I had I'm giving to my mother, one was PIII 1GHz and the other a PIII 600MHz. One for desktop use, the other I'm setting up as a Slackware Linux server to host her domain and mail on at her house, I'll remotely administer it for her.

And I have many other parts I'll be trying to get rid of, probably could make 2 or 3 more machines from the parts..

im still thinking about building a new gaming machine this summer. the only thing is the next gen consoles come out at the end of the year. id hate to drop a lot of money on a new gaming rig, then abandon it for a new console. but, if i were to build a new pc:

Athlon 64 4000+
2GB pc3200 ram
6800GT video card
Asus nforce4 sli mobo
76GB WD raptop
dvd burner
dvd drive
wireless keyboard and mouse
logitech 5.1 speakers
19" LCD
windows xp pro

the best part about using linux, is that i dont get the constant urge to upgrade because i really dont use my linux boxes for gaming. ill do my best to avoid buying the parts above. wish me luck.

I'm so happy I'm not a gamer at all. I save a ton of money not having to upgrade on computers or buying console type games and the price tags for each game..

The only thing I actually pay for when it comes to computers is the hardware.. with Linux and opensource, even all my software is free.. except when I donate or buy something to help the project, etc.

i threw suse 9.3 on my laptop today, so far so good. i had just done a fresh install of xp then i realized that xp doesnt come with anything, no decent photo editor, office suite etc. though open office for windows is pretty nice, i just decided to go with linux.
