Nice Cheap Dell Server box.... $350

Dudes,

Check this out. I'm thinkin about gettin some. Don't come with an OS so it's real cheap. Nice desktop box basically but it's a server chassis. 3 IDE channels for a total of 6 devices. Room for 4 Hard Drives. Some other goodies.

Buy it, throw another stick of RAM in it and yer good to go

See ya!

might want to upgrade the ram though, only 128. I was messing around with options and got one up to 23 k. Pricy little server.

Aside from the fact that its a suuuuwwwweeet serverworks board, you really can beat the pants off of that deal just building your own from scrounge.

Still, its nice to see Dell is somewhere near rational with a server product.

I dunno fin... pretty tough to beat serverworks + 3xIDE + decent case/ps + 256MBRAM + 40GB HDD + 4x64bit PCI (not 66MHz tho) + CDROM (give it away)

3 IDE means a very basic RAID5 with another couple of 40GB drives and nothing riding on the slave chain.

Three year warranty is nice too.

Beats the pants off anything I can buy through my vendor chains.

The things that bugged me were the 128Mb and the 40Gb, its propped as a storage crate but is shipping with a base drive that I outclassed with my last machine build in 2001. Good PDC202xxx or HPT37x cards these days are skirting the neighborhood of $20 too...

Three years warranty is hard to argue with.

Cheers,

For the $350 it only comes with 128MB RAM and a 40GB Drive.

I don't know about you guys, but I just can't fill up a 40GB Drive. Also, a 40 Gig is so cheap that I could buy a 512MB Stick of Crucial for about $61 and another 40GB for about $70.

So you add $350 + $130 = $480

I just config'd a box at www.newegg.com for about $550.

I do see what you are saying, but for the price I just thought it was a nice box. I really like the RAID and the Serverworks board

Peace all...
