Try watching some of that Andromeda television series (you know... with hercules) at around midnight.... you should have no problem falling to sleep. You might, however, have nightmares about the show being re-upped, or making it to re-runs.
This post should be in the General section, being completely unrelated to Linux. Don't worry about reposting it, I'm sure it will get moved.
As for how to go to sleep:
Do a good workout about 2 - 4 hours before you want to go to sleep, say, around 7PM. Then when you get home (assuming this isn't at your house, either way..) do a bit of reading, light reading, nothing extremely brain draining nor boring though either. Have yourself a light dinner, take a warm shower and ~ 10 PM you should be feeling a bit sleepy, and get a good nights rest.
There are actually studies you can participate in if you really are feeling sleep deprived. Contact your Dr, or go to your local university hospital, I'm sure they will have more information for your area.

Hey, I happen to like that show
Curing insomnia (believe me I know):
1 - get more exercise (only a bit more will help...)
2 - don't work in your bedroom
3 - don't actually go to bed until you are ready to sleep (ie: don't go to bed at 9 to read while planning to fall asleep at midnight)
4 - get a regular sleep schedule setup and follow it religiously while you're having problems.
5 - if you spend more than an hour trying to sleep and you can't...get out of bed and go read or watch tv for a half hour, then try again.

You better wake up and pay attention. All US tech jobs are moving to India.
i dont' understand how you're not exhausted after whatever you do during the day? if i get to bed at 10:16 instead of 10:15 i feel completely exhausted for my next day at work and i just come home and nap
hey don't knock insomnia..:P. lately I go to sleep at 6 or 7 a.m. and get up about 2 p.m.. I find I'm way more productive between 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. than any other time. though going to sleep when the sun rises is a little disturbing.
I can sleep when I want or I can stay up when I want.
My girlfriend says I have to hold the record of falling asleep after lying down.. I swear at times it's instant when I want it to be.. and TV always puts me to sleep, hell, I've fallen asleep sitting up on the couch watching TV it was so boring..
