Thanks for digging this old grandma out of the grave . And now that you have already digged it out, and you are alone to blame for it,
I might have been 20 some 7 years ago or something? May be 2002-2003 dont remember exactly. It could have been RH9. But I have used RH7.X series and RH8 as well. Now onto Ubuntu maverick.
I posted in this thread some years ago, so it's time to post again.
I first installed Linux as a 16 year old, in April 2005. I chose Mandrake 10.1, but I didn't like it much. Later when I was 17, in September of the same year, I installed Ubuntu. I found it difficult at first, but within a month I was using it full time, and I liked it a lot.
Since then, I switched to Debian for various reasons, tried Arch (but didn't like it), and may switch to another distro if the next release of Debian doesn't impress me. All my laptops and computers run Linux except for my old Pentium laptop, which runs a stripped down Windows 9x.

What are all those complex questions in the installation ??
Found suse
Its so slow my old computer does not run it well. Is there something faster ?
Found gentoo, installed it (took me like a week to figure out everything), used since (removed windows completely a week later)
installed linux mint 5 at like 15-16 on a friends computer, couldnt figure out that .tar.gz files werent .exe's and never used it again.
then got my own computer, installed ubuntu 8.10 in august 2009. liked it a lot, but didnt get a lot installed other than a theme.
decided i was too good at computers to be using ubuntu after about a month, downloaded and installed slackware 13.0 the day it came out. got very confused, never got wicd installed, always connected to wifi through the command line. did that for about 3 months.
then i gave up on linux and went entirely on xp x64 for about 6 months. that was allright, but it bothered me that i wasnt using linux, because i really wanted to learn it.
installed windows 7 and debian 5.0.3 on the same day, booted into windows 7 once, and after a few weeks, deleted it and went solely on a debian machine for about 6 months, until right about july of 2010.
got mad i couldnt play games on debian, and deleted it and used windows 7. ran with that as my only OS for 4 months, but by that time i was already addicted to linux. i missed my command line, and theming. (gotta say, theming in linux is much more fun than in windows).
decided to give slackware another go about a month ago. slowly but surely re-learned linux entirely, and am now (at least i think) quite proficient in it. now that ive had time to learn what im doing, i really like slackware, and am finally where i wanted to be when i installed it quite some time ago.
