Haven't owned a Shark but a former company I worked with did a design verification effort on a Shark upright vacuum. It was an independent test to confirm that the product lived up to it's advertising. Did it not lose suction? Was the projected failure rate ... whatever they claimed.
We left the experience very impressed. Not that we tested them against other manufacturers or other models, we tested one and tested their product claims. Said claims were accurate.
As far as products made in China, a lot of stuff IS made there, the question is whether or not it is first designed there and then how well they did with the effort. We get a lot of chips and dev kit boards and some of them the documentation clearly started in Chinese and it was translated very poorly. Their support site is non-existent, there's little you can do to get questions answered. This vacuum I got had like 7 or 8 languages in the documentation, the English variation was fine and readable, so no poor translation. It also has a warranty which seems normal/reasonable. Whether or not it's fully designed and made in China, Taiwan, Korea, or elsewhere doesn't seem to be a product problem here.
I had a Roomba and it worked quite nicely for routine vacuuming. Every six months or so, it was still necessary to do a deep cleaning the old fashioned way.
After it died of old age, I didn't bother to get another one, but I'm thinking of getting one again, because I'm getting lazy in my old age.

Add: my usual vac is a high end Dyson. Not sure if it is like Nike's where there is a lot of rubbish ones and a few good?
mine is 7 years old crappy vacuum which cost 40€, it really sucks (no pun intended, lol)

Reason: grammar
It amazed me at how much dirt it got out of the carpets, don't forget the filter.
If you think about it tho with a regular vacuum we only run over a spot one to three times and normally only in one or so directions?
Got mine without WiFi as they were just hitting the market:

Our new Roomba models utilize Wi-Fi technology to connect to the iRobot Cloud through the iRobot HOME app to enable such features as Google/Alexa compatibility, scheduling, Push Notifications, adjusting cleaning preferences, and receiving Over the Air Software updates.

Can I use Roomba® without Wi-Fi? | iRobot Customer
Aside from the software updates and devious corporate minds I don't see why it is a thing? Maybe somebody bringing a date to see their apartment for first time? lol
Reminds me of https://player.vimeo.com/video/90679582 Andrew Huang(* &c paraphrased) saying "a few years ago if you thought companies putting secret chips to spy was crazy..." I love voiding warranties!
The scheduling function on mine is awesome, as said I use it like an alarm clock. Then I push the button to pause it as I get moving and again to finish after I leave.
Any recall: There Will Come Soft Rains a short story by Ray Bradbury?
