I don't dual boot. Use VMWare with Mepis 6.5.

Unfortunately, that's not gonna cut it. MSFS 2004 (I don't have hardware to run MSFS X) has all the real world terrain and navaids that I use for practice...

ysflight looks like it could be a decent "fun/game" type flight program though. Except that on my AMD 1900+ that I tested it with it ran about as fast as games with similar detail used to run on my old 10mhz 8088 machine! Yuck. Perhaps on better hardware that problem goes away. :-)

I run most of my games under linux (currently NWN and puzzle pirates are my vice de jour) , but still need to use windows for MSN live chat (I need this for school) and some of the background tools I use for my website.

i still boot windows occasionally because i need autocad 2006/2007 and other engineering related software like mathematica or solidworks. occasionally some games here and there, but my roommate has a 360 so im playing more console than computer games.

games, battlezone II, guild wars, warcraft, and other games that the makers refuse to make a linux exe about them.

but if i started with linux i'd have linux based games and not windows based games....
everything else is already on linux that i need, i haven't evne visted windows for a while...

I use "Dose to keep my palm pilot sync'd, and a couple other things that Linux won't do. There are a few apps that do not work in Linux, so you have to do something to keep them working. XP may be a bit slow and cumbersome, but it still works as a sync for my PDA. I couldn't get Kpilot to work on Linux 2007, so have to use it for that. Also, some company stuff needs 'Dose to work.

I, sometime trade in stocks & shares and that freaking site is a slave of Microsoft technologies.So I need to boot into XP sometimes.

I use it still for Dundjinni and PCGen, what's funny is that both of those products use java technology but Dundjinni only works in 'doze and PCGen has a *nix version but I can't get the bloody thing to work at all in *nix. Itunes, while it can be run in VirtualBox if one wants to waste a license code like that I use it too much to bother. All in all I find myself still having to boot into 'doze so much that Linux is rarely used now and is primarily just used for my class about Unix.

If I ever upgrade to a dual or quad core processor that has virtual computing extensions and boost my RAM to 4GB+ then I may shift to Linux primary again and Windows in VirtualBox. But without such beefy hardware it's not productive to do so and still some of my custom programs like dundjinni may not work.

Like it or not, without getting commercial software vendors on our side Linux fails on the home desktop.

i need cd/dvd emulator(cd emu doesn't work), ms office 2007 of course, a few games, i need my card reader(laptop), multimedia/movie is better in windows(just my opinion though), and other software that i find it difficult to use in linux. but there is no other choice for metworking except linux.

why do you need office 2007? can't you use open office?

I have found a good solution: VirtualBox.

Advantages:

1. I don't need dual-boot, just launch the VM when I need to.
2. I back up the VM and the Virtual disc. So I no longer have to reinstall Windows after it blows up.

Disadvantages:

It is a little slower but, for my purposes, OK.

as for me I am using it for the Samsung mobile utiltiy(ie: backup my phone and transfere files)

I have about 2 grubs and one lilo over that HDD.
3. On the other HDD (SATA-160G) i multiboot too
4. I boot there:
a. Fedora 8
b. PCLinuxOS 2007
c. Mandriva 2008
d. Slackware 12.1
those drives are used in the workshop for compatibility testing etc.
5. Everyday we fix XP for customers, and very seldom Vista (not so popular yet ;-) i wonder... ).
I'm about to see for that virtualisation ASAP...
