Just a little rant! I really like my Slackware and find that by giving back to linux via LQ helps me. My input to LQ is very important to me since I cannot work any longer. Most of the people on this forum are helpful to the newbies unlike other forums that I used to participate in.
Most newbies just need a push in the right direction. Others just don't use good common sense. Here on LQ we have a great search engine for the site or for a particular forum. Most users just don't use the search facility.
What about the spell checker??
AOL speak is another peeve. I could go on ....
I come from academia and most people have good research skills. Yet even at this level the college students don't always use the tools available. Heck google, yahoo or whatever search engine will get you plenty of results that you can trim by using the advanced search functions. Sure it can be easier to just post a query. But I generally don't respond to someone that doesn't do some work on their own.
I find a lot of poster's assume that we are looking over their shoulder and can read the monitor. MY crystal ball is cracked. My Flux capacitor is leaky therefore I can no longer time travel. Therefore the needed information should be posted and not assume that we are 'Carnac the Magnificent'
If OPs' would just post relevant output for the question posted. Such as Error messages, relevant portions of logs i.e.dmesg or even text screen shots. This would be helpful! Instead we responders generally have to request most information. Sure most new posters don't know what to present via the cli. But they are aware there is a problem but fail to present what they see from the existing problem.
Another request would be for new users to read some good online reference material. I even provide some in my sig for LQ. BTW, I have read all the referenced material in my sig. Some are better than others but most are good reads for reference.
Yet another request would be that the newbie learn to use the man command. Sure we can thank Billy Boy for the problems since most users migrate from M$ with the hand hold syndrome. We linux users should have an inoculation requirement to prevent the problem.
My subject line should have been 'Chicken Soup for Slackware Lovers like ME'

I also deplore the lack of communication skills all too often exhibited in forums. This one is far better than most, but still has some magnificent examples.
But isn't unSpawn great?

Rants annoy me so it's time to pick shit.
...usually fans the embers of a smouldering flamewar, this behaviour does.
Rants are stupid, not many people read them and even less take action based on it.
With all due respect but just like his your comments mainly focus on what is wrong. Why not twist it around and adding helpful comments instead (after threethousand plus posts, I hope you would)?
ignore the stupid posts
Are you sure classifications like that reflect on his post?
Or do they reflect on how *you* perceive his?
Besides, there's really not a lot that goes away by silently ignoring it.
Just remember, when you come across the more obtuse member, a really good looking moderator wrote the tutorial "How To Ask a Question"- point the member at that and the extremely good looking mod increases his good lookingfulness by 17.9%.
