SuSE 8.2 doesn't come out until April 15, but Amazon is shipping it too.

because amazon is the 800 pound gorilla of online sales, that gets you bumped to the front on the line as far a product availablity.

plus theres a diference between the 'release' date and the date it actually started shipping. in order to be placed on the retail shelves on let say the 15th, it had to ship much earlier, (travel time from the manufacturer, time spent at the warehouse, travel time to the local store, time spent in the stores stock room, plus a possible embargo as far as the earliest date the product can be on the shelves) amazon doesn't have to deal with most of this, they just ship directly from a regional warehouse, or in some cases, have the manufacturer ship directly to you.

If it's the same as with the books, they aim to have it with you on the release date.

amazon.co.uk has RH9 on 'preorder', it's all up front that the item won't ship until it's released.
