FC5 not detecting my external serial modem

I was recently using Suse 10.0 32-bit on my AMD64 3000+ box, and just yesterday, i installed Fedora Core 5 64bit Dvd. eveything went Smoothly until i was try to connect to the internet using my external conexant controller-based modem. KPPP and the modem configuration tool of Gnome could not detect my modem or query my modem using all the ports available (/dev/ttyS0, /dev/modem, and so forth). What could be going wrong? i had overwritten Suse 10.0 thinking 10.1 would be available by the end of the month and my modem was working fine then and Suse accesses my modem simply as /dev/modem. I'm accessing the internet now using my windoze xp partition using the same modem. Is FC 5 trying to promote DSL and discouraging poor people like myself who can't afford a DSL connection? i got everything in FC5 64bit DVD installed and i don't know what i'm missing. my modem's turned on as soon as i turn on my PC. any of you guys had the same experience? I wish somebody could help me bec life's boring without connection to the 'net and i don't intend to keep windoze for a long tym. Thanks much in advance!

now, what do i do if i can't get help? i think this is one of the disadvantages of open source software... i'll just wait for the next release of Suse on the third week of April... Silly me, why did i have to overwrite Suse... arrggh.. Oh well, i'd have to learn it the hard way....

Are u trying to say that in Windows u get help easily? FAR FROM IT. Its far easier & more likely to get help in linux than in windows. I believe its just a coincidence that u didn't get help this time....maybe the ppl here didnt have any solution. I know how notoriously difficult it is to get help with windows...most ppl end up calling the expert and paying for it!

Btw why dont u reinstall Suse? If everything works fine in it? Did u lose the CDs?

Windows is not too bad either if things work fine in it. I dual-boot.

Try Kinternet. Also have a look at your vwdial.conf.

Now I use adsl, but when I used modem on my FC4, I shall download ltmodem and try to install them.
There are too many archive of them, you shall compile one of it and try install.
