Hi folks,
I've lurked around this board off and on for a while, but now I've gone and registered!
Here's my problem. I'm running FC5, and last night I did a routine Yum update of a couple of inconsequential things on my system, and *POOF* - my gnome desktop and a lot of other things were deleted.
I'm a fairly experienced user, and I've been able to get things more or less running, but there are still problems with gnome, and I'd like to just get things back to the way they were. What happens if I just re-install FC5 from the original disks, and select "upgrade"? Will it actually take me back to the way the system was immediately after installation (and leave my settings and added software intact), or will it make things worse?
If this won't do it, what is the easiest way to restore the original gnome files & setup? I've tried deleting the entire desktop group via Yum, and then reinstalling... I still have several issues, such as my background wallpaper doesn't come up, and the Nautilus File Manager isn't working.
Thanks!
