Question RPM's with an Athlon CPU

Hmmmmmm I never really thought about this until I wanted to start downloading and installing new kernels.

I know for example if I wanted to install say.....kernel-module-alsa-1.0.4-1_2.4.22_1.2188.nptl.athlon.rpm I know that's the one I need to get. But what about those files that have i586 and i686? I realise i386 is for your bog standard intel system, but what about these other ones.

I'm curious.

lets put it this way, back in the day when i used an rpm based distro i have
never in my life used an athlon rpm, when i chose i just took i386 or if it was
only available in i586/i686 then i took that one ..
and yes i have an athlon cpu ... and yes i never had a problem ..
don't get me wrong i am not saying to never use an athlon rpm i am just saying
then you won't have a problem using the others ...

Thank you DrOzz. You confirmed my suspicions.

Cheers.
