Is there a way to turn off the animated cursor and the bubble help in fc5?

I have looked high and low without success. I would like to completely turn off the bubble help and change the animated 'busy' mouse cursor to a static one. Any suggestions welcome. If it matters, I'm using an Nvidia card (GeForce 4) and the Nvidia proprietary drivers (necessary for acceleration when viewing my electron density).

Thanks in advance.

Depends on your desktop I think. On KDE you can use Control Center to set up how the "busy" icon is displayed and probably your other woes too..on Gnome I'm not sure but I'd try the mouse configuration tool and the umm what-was-it-called configuration editor that lets you edit settings directly.

gconf-edit

The mouse control in GNOME does not seem to include an option to remove the mouse 'busy' animation. In another forum someone suggested using the gconf-editor to turn off the bubble help (/apps/global/panel IIRC), which has removed 10% of the bubbles.

And someone suggested changing the pointer icon in one of the 'theme' subdirs. That's my next experiment.
