Init.d services take a long time loading after fixing a corrupted hosts file

Hi all,
Ive been using fedora 6 for some time now (mainly for java development), and Ive come across a weird problem...
After my laptop ran out of battery while my fedora was running an http server Ive written (stupid stupid stupid), netbeans refused to load the debugger, a few hours later, I also found out that I can't ping localhost, this led me to believe the problem is related to my hosts file, which as Ive noticed, was indeed corrupt (didn't specify any 127.0.0.1 references).
After manually inserting the localhost reference to hosts, the debugger works flawlessly, yet sendmail and cups server services take forever to load...
This never happened before, the box ran very well up until this change, and if I remove the line Ive added in hosts, the box starts well, but without reference to localhost.
Strangest thing is, that if I change the hosts file AFTER booting, everything runs well, including the debugger.
Im really stumped by this, and Ive googled all over for the answer, couldn't find any.
ALL help is appreciated!
Cheers!
Ishay Peled.

You should make sure your real hostname and the localhost are in the hosts file before all other entries:

You could have either:
On the localhost line make sure you have aliases for your hostname (both fully qualified domain name [FQDN] and short name).

e.g. Say your host is ralph and your domain is kramden.com:

127.0.0.1 ralph.kramden.com.com ralph localhost.localdomain localhost

OR

127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
192.168.1.12 ralph.kramden.com ralph

All other uncommented entries should follow the above entries and NOT precede them.
