K3B loading takes oddly long time.

I am running Fedora Core 4, on good hardware, a cd-rw and a dvd/cd-rw with 1 gig of ram. Whenever I click K3B to load, it usually takes a solid 3 minutes or more to get to a useable program. The splash stays on screen for what is usually about 2 minutes and then blinks off and a minute or so after that, K3B will let me use it. Does anyone know what could cause this to happen? I'm at a loss as to why all my other programs initialize and run quite quickly and this one does not. Any ideas?

are you running it from kde or gnome? if from gnome, you might want to check that you have the full kde base installed. i use gnome 2.12, and k3b takes about 15 seconds to start from "cold". I also have current hardware, a gig of ram and a 3.4G P4

You may also try starting K3b from a shell. Some of the messages printed out may indicate what is taking so long.

If you are using gnome then you could try using "gnomebaker". It's a cd writer program that is made for gnome and has all of the same options as k3b.
