How to build a stock/vanilla kernel on a fedora 8

Hello,

I am running F8.

I want to build on this system a stock/vanilla kernel for another system.
Can someone indicate me where I can find a good tutorial?

I "googled" but I did not found some good info yet.

thank

This is pretty useful:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Docs/CustomKernel

The following also might be helpful:

And
http://alien.slackbook.org/dokuwiki/...kernelbuilding

Building for another system is possible, if this
system is an identical Fedora 8 or something else
with an absolute identical 'glibc' and preferable
the same compiler.

Thank you for your links.

My goal is :

build a small kernel for pxe client (thin client).
When booted with it, I want to push/pull an HD-image from/to nfs-share.

So, in fact it is for maintenance of a small classroom (10 pc's).

I think to use "dd" to create the HD partition images.

Someone else some other idea's ?

Why not use direct LTSP?
I want to understand all the steps in the process.
(Knowledge is power)

so I hope that somewone can explain (help me) in detail how to build a kernel for my "thin client". (initrd ? rootfs ? ? )
nfs-share is not a problem, pxe-boot neither (via syslinux)
I have some "cold feet".

regards,

chipotphe
