I'm a brand new Linux guy. I just installed Ubuntu about 3 weeks ago. It's not bad, but I'm trying other flavors to see how I like them. I have a few friends that swear by Fedora, so I downloaded the LiveCd over the weekend and booted it up to try.

Immediate look and feel was fine. It was almost identical to Ubuntu. I liked it. I didn't play too awful much, but I did notice one thing while I was booted up in the LiveCD. The screen had video artifacts. Typically, I'd see lines running through windows/icons on the screen.

I might be willing to try Fedora installed, but I'd like to see this problem taken care of first to show it would be ok.

Any suggestions on things I can try to fix the display?

Computer is a laptop (Dell Inspiron 1720).

if everything else worked to your satisfaction...it would be worthwhile to fix this.

can you look at your specs and report what the onboard video chipset is based on pls. I could not find a match in HCL so pls post the output of

but a 1500 series suggests it maybe a ati Radeon Xpress 1100 IGP but that is not going to be good enough to build a new /etc/X11/xorg.conf

and I use nvidia card so am not a fan of ati...but will try to help where possible....others can jump in anytime
