Fedora Core Directions for Kernel Recompile

I was reading some directions on how to complile my kernel with in Linux on the web however some of the directories are differnt. can someone post a link or show me how to recompile a kernel in Fedora Core?

In addition, I want to make my kernel leaner and run faster. According to my hardware what should I take out of the kernel? Im running a laptop and just want to use it for writing papers, watch dvd''s and listen to mp3's

I dont need servers at all accept samba to interface with my friends who are windows users.

is it worth?

( I know this is an old post, I am responding just for people doing searches and to remove it from the 0 responses list)

Compiling FC It is different for different versions (FC1, FC2, FC3)

Read the particular release notes for your version here

I don't think that you will get a noticeable speed boost by removing driver options from the kernel it may create a smaller kernel, but you have enough memory.

As for servers just disable the services.

If you want a distribution meant to play with the kernel, try Gentoo . Fedora works best when configured as provided.
