Exclamation FC2. Trouble during installation.

The following are the messages I received during the
many attempts I made,

(i) <0>Kernel Panic: unable to mount root fs 0n
48:05

(ii) <0>Kernel Pannic: Aiyee, killing interrupt
handler!
In Interrupt handler - not syncing

(iii) <0>Kernel Panic: attempted to kill init

At another instance, the execution proceeded till the
message -
"running /sbin/loader"
was displayed. From there on the application refused
to make any progress.

Can anyone shed some light as to what the problem could
be?

This error came when you rebooted your system after installing or during installation.

This error states that the root partition cannot kbe mounted and kernal throws a panic due to that.

Appreciate your initiative to help, Nitin. But you really did not address my query as to the "possible reason" for such an output.

The messages were all seen during the initial stages of the installation. And I think I'm a little educated enough to understand that the 'root was unable to mount' and tha's why the panic was thrown, Nitin

If the messages were seen in the inital stages of installation then mebe you should check the Media (CD) for any errors or mebe get a fresh ISO for the CD 1 and write it again.

If you install the boot partition on an extended partition generally the kernel is not able to find root slice and mount it. This happens after the installation is complete and you reboot the system.

The problem was solved when the hardware vedor promptly replaced the memory stick. Guess it had something to do with a faulty RAM.
