disable modules - where is blacklist in Fedora 21

Hello,

according to this page http://linuxpoison.blogspot.com/2009...necessary.html, to disable modules, one just need to add modules to blacklist in the /etc/modprobe.d/ directory. But others say Fedora has moved the location to /lib/modprobe.d/. Both locations exist. So which one is correct?

I tried both, but the modules are still loaded into memory.

Can anyone please shed some light on how and where to place the blacklist?

thanks much.

This Fedora documentation should walk you through blacklisting a module/driver.

http://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/...cklisting.html

Or search in this file for a module name and if it's indeed in there then comment out (use the # sign) or delete the string.
Code:
    /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
I looked on my system and /etc/modprob.d is an empty directory so I think you will have to create this file with Vi or Vim.

Thanks for the response. But it somehow doesn't prevent the modules from being loaded at next boot. I'll try more.

I also noticed, not all with 0 in the lsmod output are not used. For example, if I rmmod all these 0 drivers, my USB mouse as well as mousepad stop working. I have to backtrack each driver manually to find out which ones are responsible for the device and reload them.

many thanks

Sounds like your going to have to weed out which driver it is that you need to blacklist.
Hope you find which one it is.

In the meantime hang in there other members may chime in and know another way to rectify this.

Add a blacklist entry in a file under /etc/modprobe.d/.

Thanks for the link smedley76:-
