Browsing internet

I connected a network cable between my laptop with fedora 5 to my network, so I could browse the internet throught it. The problem was it would load some sites like mozilla and the fedora project site, but others such as google didnt load. It was also very slow to load the sites that do work. I turned the firewall off on fedora but that didnt help. I used firefox to browse the internet. Any help?

If do issue the following command are you receiving the proper ip address

ifconfig

You box might possess static IP when you need to set your nic to dhcp.

You might also want to issue the nslookup command and see if you can query a website. If you are able to query a website then there is problems with firefox. So I would check your proxy settings.

Are you using a router? There might be a configuration issue with the router.

Still slow but tried the nslookup:

Quote:
[root@localhost ~]# nslookup www.google.com
Server: 192.168.1.1
Address: 192.168.1.1#53

Non-authoritative answer:
www.google.com canonical name = www.l.google.com.
Name: www.l.google.com
Address: 64.233.161.147
Name: www.l.google.com
Address: 64.233.161.99
Name: www.l.google.com
Address: 64.233.161.104
I think that must mean its a firefox issue then seeing as it returns google's ip. The laptop uses an inbuilt ethernet if that helps...
