Warning in Synaptic and ripping CDs

Hi all

I'm a born again (tried Debian briefly last year) Linux newbie. I've got a dual boot Windows XP Pro (SP3) / Debian Lenny AMD64 (with Gnome) PC.

I need to be able to:
  • Play DVDs using Totem
  • Rip music CDs to AAC (maybe MP3) (my phone doesn't support Ogg) formats using sound juicer. Ogg is fine for playing on my PC. AAC appears as a Sound Juicer profile but I can't use it

So I added debian-multimedia.org to my /etc/apt/sources.list file like so
Code:
deb http://debian-multimedia.org/ lenny main
and installed the GPG keys like so
Code:
aptitude update
aptitude install debian-multimedia-keyring
When I tried to install libdvdcss2 using synaptic I got the following warning:
Quote:
You are about to install software that can't be authenticated! Doing this could allow a malicious individual to damage or take control of your system - Not authenticated libdvdcss2
I've since read that I shouldn't mix and match apt Aptitude and Synaptic.

Is it safe to ignore the warning? The installation of the GPG key appeared to be successful.

My (limited) understanding is that since I'm not bothered about playing AAC formatted music on my PC is that I'd need an AAC encoder but not decoder. Am I right? If so it seems like my options are aacplusenc and faac. Are there any preferences?

Any help will be appreciated.

All I can suggest is to see if the web site has a published MD5 sum for that package; if they do, then you can check that the MD5 hash is the same and then install anyway.

I emptied the cache and deleted the debian-multimedia.org repository using synaptic then reinstalled it (also using synaptic), did
Code:
apt-get update
apt-get install debian-multimedia-keyring
and the warning has now disappeared.

My understanding is that by installing debian-multimedia-keyring I'm installing a GPG public key onto my PC. What command line utlity/command can I use to check what public keys I have on my PC? I tried GPG as root and it simply ended up creating two directories that I promptly deleted.
