Just my thought: I would put it in a new thread for the time being; perhaps you can write up a 1st draft off-site, maybe in cooperation with mushroomboy if he's inclined, and then post it in a new thread in /Debian.

Then, members can suggest, advise, critique, etc., and you can edit the OP based on input. When it's determined to be a finished product, we could decide if it should be moved, stickied, wiki'd or put in Linux Answers.

Again, this is only the thoughts of one (me) so there may be other ideas coming forth.

Ok.that sounds reasonable to me.
I'll do some research,to make sure its accurate and then post a draft here so others can add or generally mock.

I've been mucking with this since xfree86, and believe me the changes were much more annoying that the little stuff we see today. I remember the migration from xfree86 to xorg... I was doing this since Ubuntu/Knoppix started (and before). As of now there really are only 2 methods, though there are a LOT of problems you can run into... So maybe making a new thread would be nice, have a Q/A for problems. Every time somebody runs into a new problem we should update the first post for a new q/a? That way people can just read the first thread, if they have X problem it's solved, if not they post a new reply asking for help on X problem? Things like ATi/Nvidia, Alsa/OSS, Creative (that's all I use sry) should have pinned subjects I would think. That way when new driver releases come out or bug fixes are around we don't have 50x posts on the topic. Such as people having pulseaudio problems, flash problems... Idk I have noticed they don't do that here....
