Sarge Install Question

I'm planning to do an install of Sarge soon, and I had a question.

I'm going to do a base install and use apt-get to get packages I want. I'm going to use the linux26 option to give me the 2.6.8 kernel. I was just wondering if I had to include things like gcc and make in the packages I'm going to apt-get, or if those come with the kernel. Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Here's the list of packages I have on my list right now:

x-window-system
x-window-system-dev
kde
openoffice.org
mkisofs
gimp
xmms
gaim
cdrecord
mozilla-firefox
mozilla-thunderbird
xscreensaver
xscreensaver-gl
xmms-arts
qtlib3
alsa-base
alsa-utils

Any info regarding redundant packages or things I might want/need for these would be appreciated.

You'll need to apt-get make and gcc. The nice thing is when you go to compile a kernel (or something else) the build will obviously fail and point you in the direction of which package to apt-get.

There very well may be a metapackage for development. I dunno. But I do know you'll need make and a few others...

Thanks for that. This is going to be a desktop computer so I've since added:

cupsys
cupsys-client
kdelibs3-cups
cupsomatic-ppd

I just went through the debian package listing and picked the ones that sounded like I needed them. Any more help on this would be appreciated too.
