Problems installing Sarge

Hello,

I'm having trouble installing Sarge i386 from disk 1 of the full set. Although I'd like to access security updates, Sarge can't resolve the addresses for them. I know that I'm currently behind a (transparent) proxy and so I'll need to somehow tell the installer at least the DNS server address, but specifying "linux netcfg/disable_dhcp=true" at the boot prompt didn't work.

Then I tried using the "expert" mode, until it got to a message saying that the 3c59x module couldn't be loaded and I'd need it on a floppy or something. Is there a way that I can ask it to "buy me a floppy drive first"?

Thus, I dunno whether it's a problem with the stupid DHCP system or whether it simply can't work my network card. Real useful...

Aside from that, I don't seem to be able to just continue the installation from the CDs. After the message about not being able to get security updates, it just hangs. If I <Ctrl> + C it the install continues but then it asks me to insert the CD, which, surprise surprise, is in the drive (it even scanned the thing slightly earlier)! Has "someone" accidentally unmounted it and forgot to tell anyone else?

So yeah, if anyone could help with any of that it'd be nice.

are you sure that there are security updates to sarge? i was under the impression that sarge doesn´t have any security patches until it is released.
have you tried the netinstaller? maybe it works better, it just got rc3 with updated kernel & modules?

I'm afraid that I'm not swimming in CD-Rs at the moment, so that's not an option.
Also, I spent yesterday learning how to use ifconfig and route, so I just set up the gateway and everything using those two programs and ran base-config. Installation works! And I learnt something too!
