Help!!! ISA Ethernet Card

I am using the lastest stable Debian ("sarge"). It doesn't auto detect my ISA Ethernet Card
(SMC EtherEZ 8416).

If I do the following,

# isapnp /etc/isapnp.conf
# modconf then choose SMC ultra and enter io=0x240 irq=3
# pump to config dhcp

It works.

I want to setup a script, so the ethernet card gets auto setup during the
boot time.
"isapnp script" (in init.d) doesn't work because the linux kernel 2.4
supports pnp.
I even forced "isapnp script" to run during boot time, but cannot get it
work.
Please help me.

Try using lsmod to find the module name for the card then either at the end of the file /etc/modutils/aliases or create a file /etc/modutils/netcard with the contents.

Code:
## Added by me for network card parameters
options module_name_of_network_card io=0x240 irq=3
Then you run update-modules to have the new information entered into the /etc/modules.conf for use on next boot. You may nee to put module_name_of_network_card in the file /etc/modules on a line by itself to get it to load on boot, all steps as root except the lsmod.
