Debian etch how to get the cedillla character "ç"

Hello guys,

I've just upgraded my Debian box to the new stable version of Debian etch, and everything works great.... eh, well...

Except, I've been kicking my own ass trying to figure out how to configure my key map to get the cedilla character "ç" to work. I'm Brazilian so I need the "ç" all the time.

Back in the old days, you typed the key (') + (c) and you got it (ç).

Then there was an upgrade and the same combination gave me the (ć) character. The solution was that I had to press (alt) + (,) + (c) and it gave me the beautiful (ç) character.

Another upgrade, and it was (alt) + (,) = (ç) directly no (c) required.

Now I've been playing around with the different key maps by running

>> dpkg-reconfigure console-data
or
>> dpkg-reconfigure console-setup

I've even rendered my system useless once, and I still can't get my "ç" back.

Any ideas?

Generally, it’s <Compose>+<,>+<c>.

All you have to do is find out which key is Compose.

I finally solved the damned thing.

Here is how I did it:

I installed the console-setup package using apt-get.

Then I configured the keyboard using:

dpkg-reconfigure console-setup

Selected the keyboard type pc-104, the keymap US. English, US. English (international)

Set no AltGr key

Set the compose key to right Alt.

Now I can easily type the cedilla key. Watch...

ç ç ç ....

It's cool.

Also, you have to change /etc/X11/xorg.conf manually. Edit the following line:

Option "XkbLayout" "us-intl"
