Can' install SARGE on Adaptec 2820SA SATA RAID

Hi,

I got new server with Adaptec 2820SA SATA RAID. I tried to install Debian3.1 but no luck. It doesn't see RAID. There is something like boot disk installation that comes with 2820 and has support to make boot disk for
Windows
FreeBSD 5.3 5.4
RedHat 3, 4
and
SUSE

but not for Debian.
Can I use any of these and try to boot Debian (and how)?
or
Any other idea is very welcome!!

Thanks,

Hi,

Did you try using this boot parameter:
Code:
linux26
That will boot up using the 2.6.x.x kernel, which should recognize your sata.

If you grab the driver pack from Adaptecs site it includes the kernel patch for Debian
01/20/2006 02:37 PM 570,370 aacraid-2.4.27.debian.diff
the drivers are here: http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/sup...1.1.5-2409.tgz

You will probably have to patch a kernel and make a custom install iso that can detect your controller.
http://d-i.alioth.debian.org/svn/deb...tom-kernel.txt

----

you could also try the Debian on Dell servers iso which says it suppports aacraid which is what that card is if I'm not mistaken..
http://wiki.osuosl.org/display/LNX/D...ator=printable

Quote:
Several new updates to this ISO:

* Based on Linux 2.4.31 kernel
* SATA support with Jeff Garzik patches
* AIC7YXX driver support for much newer SCSI controllers.
* PERC4/Di controller which requires the latest megaraid2 driver
* aacraid, e1000, eepro100, tg3, aic79xx as well.

NOTE: This ISO is for installing … I highly recommend you recompile this kernel upon installation as I have removed quite a few of useful and practical components.
Let us know how it goes
