Question Boosplash: sysv-rc-bootsplash failed to install

Hello,

I am administrating a Linux Pool at our University and I don't get boosplash working right away. Current configuration on the workstations and the server:
- Debian testing
- Kernel 2.6.16 + kernel-path-bootsplash
- Kernel properly compiled with make-kpkg and installed with dpkg
- all bootpslash tools installed
- debian archive from boosplash.de inserted into /etc/apt/sources.conf
- themes installed from boosplash.de

Everything work's fine, I get framebuffer and even a static silent boosplash, but no progress bar! As I read in some forums, you have to install sysv-rc-bootsplash from debian.boosplash.de. So I tried to do this but always get the error message:

ERROR: Patching your rc and rcS files has failed.
Botsplash was unable to patch your /etc/init.d/rc and /etc/init.d/rcS files, please run 'apt-get install --reinstall sysv-rc' to restore the original rc/S scripts and then run 'dpkg --pending --configure' to complete this install.

What can I do? This happens on our workstations as well as on the server.

Thank you,
Arthur Miller

Thank you very much for your reply. I tried out the archive. The installation was fine and even a progess bar appeared. Unfortunatelly it doesn't do its job properly: it jumps immediatelly from 0% to 100% without steps in between.

I'm going to have a look at the rc-script. If I can find the error, I will post it.

If you read the bug report, another user posted a patch for that.

Hope that helps.
