A new installer? For real?
I've heard that the traditional Debian installer has been worked over for the latest stable or will be for the next stable release - people aren't getting their stories straight. Debian.org mentions a new installer but is not very specific, to say the least. Is there a new installer? If so, what's changed?

The new installer does a lot more (meaning more than none) hardware auto-detection. I tried a beta of it and liked it quite a bit.

Thanks! I think I'll be giving it a shot soon too. Everytime I've tried to install pure Debian before all I got was an X server crash, and I finally tracked it down to the hardware detection because all the Debian-based sistros that use a different hardware detection program installed fine. Unfortunately, almost every Debian-based distro is also costly, so I always wanted to get Debian itself to work.
