(K)Ubuntu installer failing to load installer components from CD.

Hi.

I've been recently tinkering with (K)Ubuntu 5.04 * and I seem to have the same problem with both of them. The install procedure runs fine up to one point where I get a red screen with the error message:

An installation step has failed... The failing step is: Load installer components from CD.

Here are the last four lines of the fourth console, where warnings, errors etc. appear:

anna[12295]:WARNING**arser_rfc822:Iek!Don't find end of field, it seems to be after the end of the line!
anna[12295]:ERROR**:can't find package file
main-menu[3261]:WARNING**:Configuring 'load-cdrom' failed with error code 1
main-menu[3261]:WARNING**:Menu item 'load-cdrom' failed

I have two CD-ROM-s and the error occurs with both....

Thanks in advance (:

Looks like you may have gotten a bad ISO, check it with the md5sums thing from where you downloaded it from, that is, if you downloaded it.
BTW, the two CD-roms you have, are they from the same ISO? Or are they copied one from the other?

Wow, that was quick

Hmm...it seems unlikely. I have ordered the Ubuntu CDs and the same error occurs with each of them (well I've only tried a couple but the Kubuntu installation fails with exactly the same error messages)...

Aah I meant I have two devices: a CD-ROM and a CD-RW...

I've seen errors like that on dirty or worn out drives. I had a cheap DVD drive that wouldn't install a data DVD but would play movies fine.

I'm having the same problem. Downloaded the iso from the mirror last night and that gives me the error, so I downloaded the iso through torrent today, still the same error. The drive is fine - it burned the disks and it can load up the gentoo live CD. By the way, I've tried both the install disk and the live CD and neither work. Same error after going through the first three "English" settings and then detection of hardware. I'm starting to think its a compatibility issue or something, but i386 should run on a p4 if I'm correct.

The md5sum's are all correct so I know that the iso is fine
Tried two different CD burners and two different cd drives, no combination works.

Trying this with one more disk before I really start to ask questions.

EDIT: Yep, still failed. This is rather annoying

Specs:
P4 3.0 GHz - Prescott Core
512 MB Ram - PC3200
Crappy GeForce2 (MX?)
Sata HD
Abit IS7 Motherboard

Any help will be much appreciated.

Jake

ok, so I fixed my issue. took out the IDE cable and put it back in. everything seems cool now. guess a loose IDE cable can decide what it wants to transmit
