Problem with maximum resolution in CentOS

the Cent OS 4 is based on Fedora or Red hat and so i thought i would be wise to put this topic in here......

plz guide me if i should have put it somewhere else........

i have got some problems with this cent os

i can't set the maximum resolution of the screen beyond 800*600
what may be wrong?

it detects my graphics card (s3 graphics pro savage DDR ) appropriately.
morover it also detects my monitor correctly (LG E700B flatron)

but i can't set the resolution beyond that....

is it so that i can't change it now forever?

i selected the above values during installation...i did not bother to see whether the option was available during installation...

it would be better if i could set the resolution to 1024*768

centos 4 is not based on fedora. it is based on RHEL4, so should not be posted here... should not be posted in redhat either, as it is not redhat....

what are you actually doing to set the resolution? use "system-config-display" to change it, or just manually edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Hey, no big deal here. I'm sure if it was grossly inappropriate, the Mods would move it. I was just letting you know in case you have further posts.

Peace

FYI,
I had this same problem and the solution for me was a BIOS upgrade. So, if that is an option for you, I highly recommended trying that out before banging your head too hard over this.
