There are several ways to prepare for sudden SSD failure.

Here I am using Grsync to manually backup the home folder (/home/fred) regularly to a second drive (/media/drive2).

DDRescue-GUI provides an alternative, simple graphical method for using ddrescue.

What to do when stops log in?

1. Install the package "amsn-data_0.97.2~debian-0ubuntu3~hardy1_all.deb" (or other amsn-data package suitable for your system configuration), if it still does not login in the aMSN go to step 2...
2. In the browser, login to hotmail.com using your account, and go to hotmail inbox, there should be a messenger zone, in my configuration it is on the left vertical area, below folders name, if it is stopped or off (the messenger) just start...
