Completed 2 years at LQ! A note of thanks.

Posted 12-22-2005 at 08:06 PM by vharishankar

I just noticed that I had completed two years at LQ recently (2 years 5 days as of today).

It's been a long journey since I first installed a magazine distro based on RedHat 6.1 to now when I multi-boot 4 distros on my machine (Debian, Gentoo, Arch and Suse) and I have a laptop with Suse as well. Linux has become second nature now. I hardly ever use Windows at all.

I've also made a lot of friends on this forums, had a few flame wars here and there, picked up a few fights...

Newbie cannot even open the system! HELP!

Posted 12-22-2005 at 02:39 PM by Nelda Nolen

Hello, I am of course a newbie in the dark!
I purchased a nice computer at an auction, and have NO idea how to "get in to the OS, and it is password protected. I just want to get in and set up a new OS or at least learn how to use this new system! I am currently attending a vo-tech for computer repair and troubleshooting, but there is so little information about Linux...
I know how to set jumpers to reset bios in other OS's, but don't know if that will work in Linux...........sheesh,...

Debian Gateway/Firewall

Posted 12-22-2005 at 08:20 AM by MbowerARA

I am looking to build my own gateway/firewall using somthing like ClarkConnect or Smoothwall. I am a fan of Debian based distros and was wondering if there is one simular to those two that are Debian based. My other option is to build it from Debian, but I don't have any idea where to start (as far as what packages I need...other than DHCP). It will have to be able to be remotly managed as well (using ssh or some web based GUI). Any ideas?
