Install a Linux distro in VirtualBox

Posted 04-06-2022 at 04:26 AM by beachboy2

I am assuming that you have already installed VirtualBox and that your CPU supports virtualization, using either Intel VT-x or AMD-V (SVM) which has been enabled in the BIOS.

The ISO file for the Linux distro (e.g. MX Linux) to be installed in VirtualBox has been downloaded to the user’s Downloads directory.

Open VirtualBox and click on New.

1. Enter a descriptive name into the Name box (e.g. MX Linux).
2. Select Linux as the Type.

Why SSDs die a sudden death:
https://blog.elcomsoft.com/2019/01/w...-deal-with-it/

Contemplating building a new Linux PC? It’s time to Ryzen shine!

Posted 05-19-2020 at 08:46 AM by beachboy2
Updated 05-11-2023 at 08:48 AM by beachboy2

I am not a gamer and I usually use Intel processors, but since I had read such a lot of rave reviews about AMD’s Ryzen CPUs, I decided to give one a go.
I already had a spare Antec case with 2 fans, a Seasonic 430w PSU and an Intel SSD, so all I thought I needed (see below) was the CPU, RAM and a motherboard.

I chose the much-in-demand Ryzen 5 3400G with onboard Radeon RX Vega 11 graphics. Had I been a gamer I would have gone for a Ryzen 5 3600(X) or above, plus a separate...

Code:
I: The initramfs will attempt to resume from /dev/sda2
I: UUID=948396b3-f329-4b5a-9771-1464ff25eca9
I: Set the RESUME variable to override this.
The solution is to add the UUID to this file:

/etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume

using the following command:

Clonezilla
is a well-known disk and partition cloning/imaging program.

However, the retro look of Clonezilla with its command line interface, plus a similarity to the Windows “Blue Screen of Death” (see screenshot) puts off many people from using it.
It is necessary to put this unwelcoming exterior to one side and concentrate on what this very useful and powerful piece of software can do.

I know that Clonezilla produces it own guides.
Despite...
