ArchEX (Arch Linux) with Deepin 20 BETA, LXQt 0.15.0, kernel 5.8.8-arch1-1, Yaourt and Calamares 3.2.17 installer – Build 200914

Article 200914 about ArchEX Build 200914 at 9to5Linux.com by Marius Nestor (previously at Softpedia.com)

"ArchEX Linux Now Ships with Deepin and LXQt Desktops, Linux Kernel 5.8.8

ArchEX is a live Linux distribution for everyone who wants to use Arch Linux but doesn’t want to go to all the trouble of installing Arch Linux, which in 2020 is still a thing. It follows the same motto as Arch Linux, “Keep It Simple Stupid.”

The new ArchEX Linux release comes with the Deepin Desktop Environment or DDE, which everyone knows it’s an eye candy Linux desktop environment, from the Deepin 20 Linux distribution. Deepin Desktop 15.11 is included in this release.

Many other distributions are using the Deepin Desktop, and you can even install it yourself from your distro’s repositories if you want to see what the fuss is all about. But what sets ArchEX apart is that is ships with a dual-desktop setup consisting of Deepin Desktop and the latest LXQt 0.15.0 desktop environment.

Users will be able to choose between the two pre-installed desktop environments from the login screen, which is powered by LightDM. The Deepin Desktop being the default one, it comes with various special Deepin apps, such as the Deepin Screen Recorder. All in all, you’ll love Deepin Desktop."

Article 200726 about RaspEX Kodi 64-bit at 9to5Linux.com by Marius Nestor (previously at Softpedia.com)

The previous release of the RaspEX Kodi OS, which brought support for the latest Raspberry Pi 4 model with 8GB RAM was based on the stable Debian GNU/Linux 10 “Buster” operating system series, which is also the based on the official Raspberry Pi OS.

But if you want a newer base from the Debian Testing repositories, where the development of the upcoming Debian GNU/Linux 11 “Bullseye” operating system series takes place, there’s now a new version of the RaspEX Kodi OS based on it, as well as on the official Raspberry Pi OS.

Having a newer base, this version is made especially for the new Raspberry Pi 4 boards, with either 8GB, 4GB or 2GB of RAM. On top of that, But most importantly is that the system is now 64-bit, so it can take full advantage of the new Raspberry Pi 4 with 8 GB RAM and handle files bigger than 4GB.

LFA (Linux For All) 64bit Build 200607 with LXDE, TeamViewer, Google Chrome, Nvidia 400.82, Refracta Snapshot and kernel 5.7.0-exton

Article 200607 about LFA (Linux For All) at 9to5Linux.com by Marius Nestor (previously at Softpedia.com)

"The biggest news is that LFA (Linux For All) has been totally rebuilt and it’s now based on the Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (Focal Fossa) long-term supported operating system series. Even more, it now ships with the latest Linux 5.7 kernel series and the Nvidia 440.82 proprietary graphics driver by default.
That right there is already great news for most Linux enthusiasts out there. On top of that, LFA is using the lightweight LXDE desktop environment, which makes it compatible with most computers, even older ones, now that there’s no official Ubuntu flavor based on LXDE."

Multiboot Linux live with Ventoy – “A New Bootable USB Solution” :: 200524

Same principle as Easy2Boot, except E2B is textmode, and wants to keep ISOs sorted by type (Linux, various species of Windows, DOS, couple others) -- just prep the stick once, then copy ISOs. I've had over 50 ISOs on a single 128GB stick. Sure is handy compared to the old way of doin' it.

Anyway, thanks, I'll give it a try -- we can never have too many such tools, especially since sometimes one works with some ISO and another doesn't.

Just a Windows install? Nice that you can get Linux ISOs on USB with it, but when you don't have a Windows machine, it doesn't help.

Run Android Pie on your PC :: AndEX Pie (Android-x86_64) with GAPPS (Google Play Store etc.), Spotify, Clash of Clans and Angry Birds

Article 200307 about AndEX Pie at 9to5Linux.com by Marius Nestor (previously at Softpedia.com)

"AndEX Pie, the project that lets you run Android 9.0 Pie on your PC, has a new version that appears to run better than the Android-x86’s latest release.

As I reported last month, Android-x86 9.0 finally arrived to let you run the Android 9 Pie mobile operating system on your personal computer. AndEX developer has thoroughly tested the latest Android-x86 release and reports that he experienced lots of freezes and crashes.

Therefore, he decided to build a special version of his AndEX project, which also lets you run Android on your PC, based on Android 9.0 Pie. AndEX already had a version that let you run Android 10 on your desktop or laptop computer.

Built using the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) sources, the new AndEX Pie release is comes with the same features as Android-x86 9.0 Pie, as well as numerous other pre-installed applications.

Among these, there’s the GAPPS (Google Apps) package that include various Google services like Google Play Store, as well as the Brave web browser Aptoide package manager, Root Explorer file manager, Spotify music player, and Clash of Clans and Angry Birds games."

RaspEX Kodi for Rpi4, Rpi3 and Rpi2 with LXDE Desktop and Kodi 18.4 Media Center “Leia” with Netflix, YouTube, Plex and Amazon Video addons

Article 200206 about RaspEX Kodi at 9to5Linux by Marius Nestor (previously at Softpedia.com)

"Arne Exton released today a new stable build of his Debian-based RaspEX Kodi operating system for Raspberry Pi devices with improved support for Raspberry Pi 3 and 3+ boards.

RaspEX Build 200206 replaces the previous Build 191117, which had some keyboard and mouse issues on Raspberry Pi 3 Model B and Model B+ boards that some users reported. To fix the issue, Arne Exton added a separate kernel for these Raspberry Pi boards, including for the Raspberry Pi 2 Model B.

While RaspEX Build 200206 is specifically made for the newer Raspberry Pi 4, thanks to two kernels included the system will be compatible with all Raspberry Pi boards as it will automatically determine the model you’re using the load the appropriate kernel for it.

The included kernels are Linux 4.19.97-exton-v7l+ for Raspberry Pi 4 models and Linux 4.19.97-v7+ for Raspberry Pi 3 Model B, Raspberry 3 Model B+, and Raspberry Pi 2 Model B models.

According to Arne Exton, RaspEX is very responsive and fast on the Raspberry Pi 4 computer, especially on the model with 4GB RAM, but that shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone."

MeX 64 bit Linux – Build 200130 – based on upcoming Ubuntu 20.04 LTS with Cinnamon 4.4.8, Calamares Installer and kernel 5.5.0-exton

Article 200130 about MeX Linux at 9to5Linux by Marius Nestor (previously at Softpedia.com)

"Arne Exton has released today a new version of his MeX Linux distribution to give users a Cinnamon flavored Ubuntu 20.04 LTS based operating system running the recently released Linux 5.5 kernel series.

This is Arne Exton’s second GNU/Linux distribution to be based on the upcoming Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (Focal Fossa) operating system, after ExTiX 20.2 announced earlier this week. Just like ExTiX 20.2, MeX Linux now also ships with Linux kernel 5.5, but not the final version released by Linus Torvalds on January 27th, 2020.

Shipping with Linux 5.5 means that even if you don’t plan to use MeX Linux as your daily driver, you can still use the live ISO to check if the new kernel supports your hardware that wasn’t supported by previous kernels.

What’s also nice about this release is that it ships with the latest Cinnamon 4.4.8 desktop environment, so basically it’s an unofficial Ubuntu Cinnamon remix. I like the fact that it uses the beautiful Papirus icon theme."

exGENT (Gentoo) 64bit Live DVD/USB with LXQt 0.14.1, Calamares Installer and kernel 5.3.7-aufs-exgent – can be installed in 2 min!

Article 200130 about exGENT Build 290119 at 9to5Linux by Marius Nestor (previously at Softpedia.com)
"Arne Exton’s exGENT GNU/Linux distribution aims to continue the tradition of Gentoo-based live distros with a new release that puts the latest LXQt 0.14.1 desktop environment in the spotlight.

We all know by now that Gentoo is one of the hardest Linux-based operating systems to install due to packages needing to be compiled from sources locally. But the good thing about Gentoo is that it doesn’t uses a one-size fits all approach, which mens that it can be fully optimized for specific hardware.

Newcomers who want to try Gentoo Linux on their personal computer have a hard time due to the lack of Gentoo-based live distributions. Here’s where exGENT Linux comes into play, promising to offer users an up-to-date Gentoo-based live system that can be installed in a few minutes.

The latest release, entitled exGENT 2020 LXQt Live DVD/USB, features the lightweight LXQt 0.14.1 as default desktop environment, Calamares as default graphical installer, OpenRC as default init system, and Linux kernel 5.3.7 with AUFS patches. It even runs well in virtual machines like VirtualBox or VMware.

exGENT Linux can be installed in up to 20 minutes

Highlights of the exGENT 2020 release include GRUB2 as default boot loader instead of GRUB Legacy, the ability to install new packages while running the live system, the ability to install/transfer exGENT to a USB flash drive, and two new installation methods, using the install scrips in /root/install or the Calamares installer.

“exGENT Linux can be installed to hard drive in 2 – 20 min. (Depending on computer type). This means that all of you who might hesitate to perform a normal Gentoo installation – which can take up to a couple of days – now have the chance to get this great Linux system (Gentoo) installed on your computers very easy,” said Arne Exton""

ExTiX 20.2, Build 200127, with KDE Plasma Desktop 5.17, Calamares Installer, Refracta Snapshot, Nvidia Graphics Driver and kernel 5.5.0-rc7

Article 200127 about ExTiX 20.2 at 9to5Linux by Marius Nestor (previously at Softpedia.com)

"ExTiX 20.2 Is the First Distro to Be Based on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, Linux Kernel 5.5.

ExTiX 20.2 distribution has been released today and it appears to be the first GNU/Linux distribution to be based on the upcoming Ubuntu 20.04 LTS operating system and the Linux 5.5 kernel series.

Developer Arne Exton announced earlier a new version of his ExTiX GNU/Linux distribution, dubbed “The Ultimate Linux System”, which is based on the upcoming Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (Focal Fossa) operating system, but uses KDE Plasma as default desktop environment and Calamares as default installer.

ExTiX 20.2 is also one of the first GNU/Linux distributions to adopt the recently released Linux 5.5 kernel series, which brings a new Airtime Queue Limits (AQL) feature, SMB multichannel support, SMB rootfs, a new unit testing framework called kunit, Btrfs RAID1 with 3- and 4- copies, and three new Btrfs checksums.

Best of all, the included Linux kernel has been patched for the latest Nvidia 440.44 proprietary graphics driver for Nvidia GPUs. This is good news for Linux gaming, but considering the fact that the OS is based on an unstable Ubuntu release, it’s not recommended for daily use."

Run Android 10 on your PC :: AndEX 10 (Android-x86_64) with GAPPS (Google Play Store etc.), F-Droid, Aptoide, Google Chrome and Spotify

Softpedia 200110: AndEX developer Arne Exton has announced the availability of a new version of his Android-x86 fork that lets users run Google's latest Android 10 mobile operating system on their PCs

"While the open-source Android-x86 project is currently developing a version of their OS that lets users run Android 9 "Pie" on their personal computers, projects like Bliss OS and AndEX are already flirting with Android 10, allowing you to run a fully fledged Android 10 OS on your PC.

AndEX 10 is the latest and greatest release of this Android-x86 fork that lets anyone install and run the Android 10 mobile operating system on their desktop or laptop computers, or in a virtual machine, though the latter suffers from bad video performance and distorted colors."
