Hi everybody,

I am starting to use NetBSD 5.0.1 as a desktop system, on an old PIII 1GHz, 512MB.
I have used binary packages to install a simple desktop environment with fluxbox as a
WM, firefox and lynx as web browsers, XMMS for music, XChat for IRC and thunar as a file manager.
However, when I try to save something in Firefox, through the "Save page as" option of the 'File' tab, it takes more than two minutes for the file searching window to appear. I obtain a similar behaviour from the main Thunar window, whether I call it from the command line or through a key binding.
After reading about a characteristic of GTK applications, that needed some local network configuration to work properly, I tried adding 127.0.1.1 my.localnetwork.org to /etc/hosts, to no avail.
I have rpcbind, famd and dbus set in rc.conf and running, as indicated by the install messages of various packages, so I don't have much idea about what might be the cause for such delays in these applications.
Do I have to link some font library? Is it a loopback config problem? Is it related to directories' permissions?
Since I am pretty new to NetBSD and never had this kind of problem with any linux distro, I am a bit void of ideas.
Any suggestions are welcome :-)
