How to start K-desktop and Gnome-desktop

Hi folks,

FreeBSD 6.2-amd64

Just finished installation. I'm prepared running this box as servers for testing. Since this is a test I installed almost >80% packages on Disc 2. The box booted straight to runlevel 3. After login;

$ startx
started xterm windows. On there I can start K desktop with "startkde" But failed to start Gnome with "gnome-session"

Please advise how to make on runlevel 3;

$ startkde
to start K desktop

Or
$ gnome-session
to start Gnome desktop

TIA

To make startx bring up KDE:

Code:
echo startkde > ~/.xinitrc
To make startx bring up GNOME:

Code:
echo gnome-session > ~/.xinitrc

Hi introuble,

Tks for your advice.

$ cat ~/.xinitrc
Code:
#/bin/sh
startkde
I have created the above file already. Now running "startx" starts KDE. But I can't start Gnome.

To perform your version what will be on .xinitrc? Tks.

He already mentioned it in the post above. Instead of having "startkde" in your ~/.xinitrc, you should have "gnome-session". If GNOME fails to start, then post any error messages. If you are going to be switching between various GUI environments, then maybe you need to use a login manager. There is some info here on how to enable KDM at boot up.

Hi folks,

The major problem here is unable to get nVidia driver for FreeBSD-6.2 amd64. Folks running FreeBSD are now struggling on this issue. Please read;
