FreeBSD 5.1 Install Problem

Anyone have a problem installing FreeBSD 5.1 on a dual proc machine?

I keep getting a read error 34/0 from the installation CD.

I even tryed swapping CD drives but to no avail.

Is there a version I am better off running other than 5.1?

Thanks,

green one

If you downloaded the ISO's, I dont think the GENERIC kernel is multi cpu compiled. I think you have to do that yourself.
BSD has been using multi-cpu setups for years. What are you trying to install on? Dual Xeons?

Version 4.8 is the most stable version.

Have you tried re-burning the ISO's?

I have a Dual Processor PIII. Hardware is rather recent... nothing out of the ordinary.

I burned the CD's again at a slower speed and that didn't even work. However, I did pop the CD in and just let it run for awhile and eventually it got past the post boot process.

But after the disk setup, it just fails. I am asumming this is because of the default kernel not being compiled for SMP.

Maybe i need to do some more reading....lol
