I installed FreeBSD today and when I do a startX it always goes to an xwindows that has only 3 shells open and nothing else.... I chose gnome when I installed Freebsd and then after that went back to post install options on the disk and then tried installing KDE, but each time it startst to take the files off of the disk and then restarts my computer and when I log in and do a startX it is still just a simple Xwindows.
What's this xwindows thing you are getting???
Is it a GUI?
Can you use your mouse?
WHat does ps -aux give? Do you see stuff like gdm, kdm or kdeinit ?
Do you have a configured X server? If not, run the xf86 config program.
WHat does /etc/X11/XF86Config have?
Try running gdm or kdm from a shell.
Do you have a startkde command? Check it out if its there.
ok nevermind I got all that working with a "sysinstall" my newest problem is that I cant get online with my cable or with my wireless, seems there is no IWCONFIG and with the cable I put in all my settings I am running it through a wireless router plugged in with no dhcp
