Smile ways to transfer updates and programmes to a laptop not connected to the net

I am about to use a laptop that has vista installed, I will be removing vista and installing Ubuntu. What are my best ways of keeping the laptop updated, and also other installing other programmes. The laptop will not be initially installed with broadband.
