Mounting NTFS Partitions on Ubuntu

Hi ,

I am new to using Ubuntu and was wondering if an existing NTFS partition has to be manually mounted or does something like supermount / autofs exist ?

you can take a look at your /etc/fstab, see if you have an ntfs partitioon listed there. I guess you dont have any there. man fstab for the details on how to add these new partitioons into fstab. NTFS was not well supported in the past, i guess now it should be much better. For myself, I specifically set up my dual boot shared partitions in vfat, the very well and tested for linux.

sudo fdisk -l

find your ntfs parition. probably /dev/hda1

you can mount it manually. sudo mount -t ntfs /dev/hda1 /dev/your_mount_point

or you can add an entry to your /etc/fstab file. You can't write to NTFS though, so it's not that useful.

someting like this:

/dev/hda1 /windoze ntfs auto,users,ro 0 0
