kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown ...
Hello, I am a noob and just spent 2 nights trying to get the internet working through my wireless device. now it works. and i stated using the update manager and installed 146 items on the update manager. now when I try to boot it back there is a kernel panic. please help me someone...
last few lines when booted in recovery mode.
ACPI: (supports S0 S1 S4 S5)
drivers/rtc/hctosys.c: unable to open rtc device (rtc0)
VFS: Cannot open root device "sdb2" or unknown -block(0,0)
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)
after error occurred i tried installing the grub again. but i guess it was pretty useless as the was a boot loader. anyway the live cd still boots.
-what are the commands for looking at the partitions,
-I have a systemrescuecd I downloaded off the internet which I have no idea how to use yet.
-a copy of windows vista on the same hardrive which is partitioned into 4 basically sdb1 sdb2 sdb3 and sdb4 cannot remember where the root is now. and one of them will be the swap.
any help appreciated.
thank you.
