IPv6 disabled: nothing changed!

the summary is:
-ping works with all internet adresses
-telnet works with all internet adresses
-browsers (both Firefox and Opera) works only with google (this is the weirdest)
-browsers (both Firefox and Opera) cannot load any other websites
-other high level internet application (example: ubuntu updater) doesn't work

Have you checked Systems->Preference->Network Proxy?

If telnet works, the tcp connection is OK. The http requests must be re-directed. Perhahps you need tcpdump or ethereal to do a packet level trace...

There are no proxy. The chosen option is "direct internet connection"

ok.

tcpdump first line says:
"WARNING: eth0 no IPv4 address assigned"

I think this is wrong.....

I usually get my IP from my ISP....
how should I assign the address at the eth0 interface?

System-> Administration-> Networking brings up Network Settings. Using the connection tab, select Ethernet Connection and then the Properties button. It should indicate DCHP and you won't see the IP parameters in use. The Network Monitor applet should be installed by you in your tool bar panel. Right click it and you will see the IP parameters that have been assigned by DCHP.

Xavius,

How many NIC cards do you have in your box? If only one and eth0 is not assigned a valid IP, ping and telnet won't work.

Can you post the output of "/sbin/ifconfig -a" from cmd line?

Could solve same Problem

Hi!

I had a problem just like this one Linux Router today. The ADSL Provider just changed its settings, now accepting the clients MRU despite of using a own one. The MRU was set on a much too high value of 2400. That resultet in the following kernel message:

kernel: eth2: bogus packet size: 1526, status=0x1 nxpg=0x53

check in /var/log/kern.log wether you have a message like this.
When I changed the MRU in my PPPoE settings to 1492 everything worked fine.

Google works, just because they are sending small packets.

hope this one helps
bye
