after ubuntu installation i booted to see grub listing all os
and i booted in to win xp and converted my fat32 partition (d) to ntfs using partition magic it ask me for restart to compleat conversion process i done it but my screen is stuck with a message from grub that
error 17
why this happened ( i know what error 17 is but explain me it in my case) is there is any way to repair this . i cant able to boot into any of my os
i reinstalled ubuntu with grub and get things done but is there any way other than this please tell me.
Sounds like what ever partition magic had to do in order to convert the fat32 colume to ntfs has made grub upset..
re-installing grub to the mbr on your hard disk would fix the error or like you said, re-installing ubuntu/grub ..
Grub gets angry if any of the partition numbers change and the /boot/grub/menu.lst file does not reflect the change - or if another application (like part magic) mucks around with the mbr or the physical locations on the hard disk where partitions start/end.
