Getting Evince to Work in Firefox in Gutsy

If you upgraded to Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon then you probably had problems getting evince to show PDF documents still.

Make sure you do this
Code:
apt-get remove mozpluggerrc
apt-get install mozpluggerrc
So here's what you should do to /etc/mozpluggerrc

Code:
...

application/pdf:pdf:PDF file
        repeat swallow(evince) fill: evince "$file"
application/x-pdf:pdf:PDF file
        repeat swallow(evince) fill: evince "$file"
text/pdf:pdf:PDF file
        repeat swallow(evince) fill: evince "$file"
text/x-pdf:pdf:PDF file
        repeat swallow(evince) fill: evince "$file"
        repeat swallow(documentShell) fill: acroread5 -geometry +9000$
        repeat swallow(acroread) fill: acroread7 -openInNewWindow "$f$
        repeat noisy swallow(kpdf) fill: kpdf "$file"
        repeat noisy swallow(Xpdf) fill: xpdf -g +9000+9000 "$file"
        GV()

...

application/x-postscript:ps:PostScript file
application/postscript:ps:PostScript file
        GV()
        repeat swallow(evince) fill: evince "$file"

...
The ... (ellipsis) means there's more there but don't change it.

I guess this is currently a bug in evince, since my suggestion too does not always work.

In the meantime I suggest that kghostview be used by replacing the above lines containing evince with

repeat noisy swallow(kghostview) fill: kghostview "$file"

This works pretty well.
