So I've been trying to install Xubuntu on my laptop, and it kept failing at different points. I did a disc integrity check, and it failed on the Linux kernel. I did the same check on my other box, and it passed easily. Any suggestions as to a way to get this laptop up and running again? Like is there a way to install Linux without a CD, over a network or something? Or a cheap replacement CD drive (since I figure that's the problem)? Thanks.
The CDs I burnt were both at 4x, and I've used Verbatim, TDK, Memorex and Sony
Good start, but maybe try burning at 1x ?
Can you boot from a USB connected disk? Check your BIOS for this option.
For a network install, you'll still have to boot a minimal system. Search google/linux for xubuntu network install.
I checked the bios, and the only boot options are diskette/cd/hard disk/modular, then a few NIC options. I guess I'll look into the network install option.
