System busy when should be idle

Hello,
I am new to linux and i am using SuSE 9.2 pro

Sometimes when i am doing nothing the system will be really busy. For instance i was surfing web pages the other day and it just went crazy.

I only have 256 mb of ram. Could it be that the system is moving the data back and forward from the swap file? Does anyone else have this problem?

How do you know the system is "going crazy"? When this occurs, try running "top" in the console to see what is using the most CPU. Also run "free" to see memory/swap usage. Post these here and we'll try to help.

On another note, this post marks the first time a 9th bit will be used to store my post count. That's right, 256 posts.

Bring up your diagnostics and see if its that or cpu usage, i have a 2.8ghz processor and 786 MB ram, and my cpu usage spike just from moving a window or scrolling a web page, someone said it could be because of me not having the proprietary ATI video driver installed, although i didnt have that problem in FC 3. Also, check to see if any unnecessary services are running
