SuSE 9.1 Pro install not finding WD800 SATA

Hello, World!

I have been reading SuSE/SATA threads all day, and tried a bunch of your ideas, but I can not get SuSE 9.1 Pro to recognize the WD800JD SATA on a WinFast K8S760MG mobo.

While in the SuSE Installation, I see many sata_xyz drivers ready and waiting, but none that say "Western Digital."

On SuSE or WD web site, I can not find a driver for when SuSE install (F6) offers to install a driver.

Phoenix BIOS does not offer a SATA -> ATA choice.

The mobo has only two SATA connectors (other posters seem to have multiple SATA and IDE/ATA connectors.

Anyone else have a suggestion?

Thank you, World!

because there is no such thing as "disk driver" neither for SATA nor for IDE. You need to load a driver specific for the controler where your disk is attached.

broch,

Thank you for the advice. I will dig around for the name of the controller.

EDIT UPDATE...

The installation "sees" the sata_sis controller and loads the sata_sis driver but still, the SATA is not recognized during installation. Oh, pshaw.

My solution:
1. install onto a spare IDE drive (only with /swap and / partitions)
2. reboot to an OS which was installed on the SATA.
3. mount the IDE.
4. move the entire contents of the IDE onto a separate partition.
4. Add this OS to the existing GRUB.

A sorry way to load an OS... like "landing" an airplane on its nose... i.y.k.w.i.m.
