http://en.opensuse.org/Download points to everything thats available. There is no mention of an eval DVD for 10.1. The free download includes a 6th CD image for the add-ons one used to have to hunt for on the web. Perhaps there won't be an eval DVD this time, it isn't really needed.

It's much more convinient just to have the DVD. No annoying disk changing every fifteen seconds during a one-hour install (believe me, I have had to do this...).

I didn't say there was no DVD, I said in response to the question, "is there an Eval DVD?" that there wasn't. The "Eval DVD" some used for 10.0 has not been created, perhaps because of the creation of the add-on CD concept. The "Eval DVD" of 10.0 wasn't a complete distribution. A "10.1 DVD" version for each architecture has been available since the May 18th. This 10.1 DVD contains all 6 CD's. It's available at http://en.opensuse.org/Released_Version in full ISO and BitTorrent formats.

No, I think it's because Novell wants you to buy the whole boxed set instead...
Think about it, the Eval edition has essentially everything the commercial version does. If they didn't give you some incentive to buy their actual product they'd never make any money.

You don't need the addon CD for a pure GPL environment. Everything on the addon CD can be found elsewhere. The addon CD is a convenience that contains things like Flash and Acrobat Reader.

Unhappy Madwifi G650 and Suse 10.1 = Head Trauma!

Attn Crito:

Could you post a detaied "howto" on your success?

I recently loaded Suse 10.1 and found out it did not include support for my D-Link G650 wireless adapter. Everything use to work just dandy under Suse 10.0. (Cisnet 80 laptop w/Turion64 processor).

I went to http://madwifi.org/suse/, downloaded the RPMs and installed them. Then I tried following the instructions on http://madwifi.org/wiki/UserDocs/FirstTimeHowTo.

The result was the following error message:
wlanconfig: ioctl: No such device

I googled for info and found something that said to make sure pcmciautils is installed. I checked, and it is. Then I found info that said to add ath0 to:

/etc/sysconfig/ -> network -> hardware -> mandatory devices

I did that. Still no success.

I rebooted my laptop. Still no success.

Help!

I've avoided WiFi hell by using an external WiFi router with a firewall in it. You also get the benefit and protection of NAT. Chances are all you need to do is cable up and let DCHP take care of the rest.

Erm, not quite sure what you're suggesting, seeing as I'm trying to connect a laptop to an external Wifi router. It's cabled up for the moment with a USB->Ethernet adapter but I can't leave it like that.

Linux works naturally with an ethernet LAN. DHCP takes care of the configuration needed. Its simpler than setting up a dialout modem. With a USB connected router you'll have to determine the mount point -- /dev/{name}. If it was a real Ethernet port, it will always be eth0. Its unusual that a laptop modern enough to have USB doesn't have an Ethernet port built in.

I have a D-Link Model DCM-201. Linux systems by default install it with the Tulip driver. In Suse [10,0&10.1] and Fedora Core 5 I had to change the driver to DMFE. I didn't have to in FC3 or 4. Don't know if this will help in your case.
